VLAIO – the Flemish Agency of Innovation and Entrepreneurship – launches a new call to set up ICON projects (Interdisciplinary Cooperative Research) around Artificial Intelligence. Companies interested in the project and subsidy can apply and preregister until the 21st of April.
Investment to build bridges
In March last year, the Flemish government approved an investment of 32 million euros in Artificial Intelligence. This investment supports research that is done by different actors in the field (scientists, industry and social profit organizations), enables the implementation in the industry and, finally, sets up a flanking policy.
VLAIO has set up the ICON research formula to build bridges between research results on Artificial Intelligence and the application of those results in Flanders’ industry. The agency primarily focuses on projects that have a significant added value for Flanders, projects that are very similar to the research program of AI Flanders and project that are strongly related to AI. The multidisciplinary and demand-driven approach of the ICON projects offers companies the opportunity to give direction to the research. Both the companies and scientists will contribute to a common goal coming from a different perspective, and thereby create enormous added value.
For a thematic Artificial Intelligence ICON project, you can apply for a 50% grant for the business part and a 100% grant on the research part. The application procedure requests a preregistration before the 21st of April and a final submission on the July 7th 2020. The decision will be made on the 19th of November.
