The Firestarter Hachathon was a huge hit! On the 17th of October, more than 100 hackers gathered at the EY wavespace in Antwerp. Their mission was to future-proof the firefighting services and to build solutions for 3 predefined challenges:
- Smart Buildings
- Smart Mobility
- Smart Fire Services
VIAS and Netwerk Brandweer collaborated with The Factory to realize this hackers marathon. 22 Teams of startups, students and corporates, had 24 hours to build their solution. They were supported by several coaches with different backgrounds. The Factory provided coaches in business modelling and pitching, while VIAS and Netwerk Brandweer gave essential insights in the real problems fire brigades face today.
After 24 hours, the teams pitched their solution in front of a jury, lead by John Baekelmans (imec). They selected a winning team for each challenge and were amazed by the valuable solutions all teams were able to create within such short notice. Immediately after receiving the award, the winning teams got to present their solutions on stage at the Back2theFuture conference in Ranst.
